The future of human longevity:

what is going on in the science of ageing ? 

Life expectancy has been steadily increasing. In most advanced economies, it has increased by some 10 years since 1970.There is a dynamic field of research underway on the issues of longevity and ageing. What are the key findings Where is the research headed? Are there drugs that can slow the process of ageing? That can increase  healthy longevity ? What is known already today ?

One of the world’s most eminent authorities on these questions, Dr Eric Verdin, who heads the Buck Institute for Research on Aging, will join our interactive discussion.

Dr Eric Verdin earned his MD from the University of Liege, in Belgium. He trained at Harvard Medical School and has held faculty positions at the University of Brussels in Belgium, the NIH in Maryland, and the Picower Institute for Medical Research in New York. Dr Verdin has studied the molecular virology of HIV, and his laboratory  focuses on a family of proteins—called histone deacetylases—and their role in the aging process and the immune system. He is now the President and CEO of the Buck Institute for Research on Aging.
