A message from the Chairman

The name CREM was certainly a surprise : besides being the logo of the club it is also the realisation of a dream.

Together with a small number of people, I have for several years dreamt of a place where all foreign residents of the Principality could meet and reproduce in miniature what we have in Monaco: a collection of 121 different nationalities.

Several years ago, an association called les Voisins (Neighbours) was set up by a very talented lady, the late Silvia Manasse. This association was intended to help new residents settle into the Principality, a country of which they knew little.

Today CREM is in accord with Government policy for the welcoming of both existing and new foreign residents. CREM also meets the objective of integrating them more closely into the life of the Principality, where foreigners are an important economic factor.

This clubhouse, thanks to His Serene Highness Prince Albert II – who supports and believes in this initiative – and to the generosity of Sir David and Frederick Barclay, resides right in the heart of the the Principality at 1 Avenue Princesse Grace in Monaco.

The premises of CREM has been designed and built by Patrice Pastor, and decorated by Lady Green, who had enthusiastically agreed to this project even before it had taken shape. CREM will be a home for new and old residents alike, who will find within CREM a warm welcome, a listening ear and a programme of information and activities which will help them get to know the cultural, social and economic life of the Principality.

On the 1st of June 2010 CREM will open and, borrowing a phrase from a US President, we shall be able to say: YES WE DID IT, thanks to the generosity of corporate and individual donors without whom the refurbishment of 220 m2 of space would not have been possible, and whom I thank here warmly for their confidence and support.

I also take this opportunity to wish Marilyne Pierre, who will manage the club, great success in her work and to thank the team who helped me with this venture, which I describe here for the benefit of the foreign residents of the Principality - whom I welcome.
